WHEELS Drill: Workshop on better driving

In a bid to educate the WHEELERS on advanced driving techniques and to promote driving safety, ‘Kolkata on WHEELS’ organised a one-day workshop on May 21 at the impressive Renault Rajarhat car showroom at the auto-hub in New Town.

The day began with the session on traffic rules and regulations by Prasenjit Chakraborty, Additional Officer-in-charge – Traffic Training School, Kolkata Traffic Police, and his team. The team briefed the participants about the latest traffic regulations and safety measures being implemented in Kolkata. The interactive session included live videos and imparted inputs on ‘Safe Drive, Save Life’ campaign by the Government of West Bengal.

This was followed by an exhaustive session conducted by Souvik Ghosh, Editor of Kolkata on WHEELS magazine. He dealt with city and highway driving skills, supported by audio-visual inputs. The common mistakes and the basic city or highway driving rules were highlighted in the session with a lot of interactions from the WHEELERS. The next session on driving in the hills, high speed gear shiftings and driving in water were dealt by Ashis Bagchi, senior Team WHEELS member.

After the sumptuous lunch arranged by Renault, the practical session began with each participant driving his car accompanied by an experienced member of Team Wheels. The practical trainings mainly reviewed the theoritical inputs imparted over the day with the pointing out of faulty driving styles. Short drive through the normal city traffic were conducted by Team WHEELS’ trainers- Basudev Ghosh, Debasish Banerjee, Partha Laha and Saradindu Sanyal. The day-long training programme was coordinated by Team WHEELS members- Sandeep Sardar, Debasish Bose, Arnab Bhowmik, Subroto De and Uttam Bose.

Organised for the veteran city motorists of Kolkata on WHEELS, the driving workshop WHEEL Drill was probably the first such initiative in Eastern India aimed at implementing the motto of ‘Safe Drive, Save Life’ in practice as well.
