The Indian Automotive Market was valued at USD 121.5 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach USD 250 billion in the coming decade. The year 2024 saw a slew of car launches in various segments and in this article we will look at the top five car launches of the year.

Tata Curvv

We start the list with the futuristic Tata Curvv. The Tata Curvv is a stylish mid-size SUV with a coupe-like silhouette, launched in September 2024. It boasts of a range of powertrain options, including a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine delivering 123 bhp and 225 Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Curvv also has a 1.5-litre diesel variant which produces 116bhp and 260nm of torque. An electric variant, the Curvv EV, is also available which we will discuss in an EV focussed article later on. Pricing of the Tata Curvv (internal combustion options) start at INR 12 lakhs on-road and head to upwards of INR 22 lakhs for the top variant.

Mahindra Thar ROXX

Recently crowned the Indian Car of the Year 2025 by ICOTY, the 4 door bigger brother to the Thar can truly now be considered as a reasonable purchase for families while losing none of its off-roading prowess. It has an option of 2WD as well as 4WD for its drivetrains.  It is available with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 150-177bhp (depending on drivetrain), and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine generating 130-175bhp (depending on drivetrain), both paired with manual or automatic transmissions. It produces a peak torque of 380 Nm. It excels off-road with a robust ladder frame chassis, and high ground clearance. However, its on-road ride can be firm, and fuel efficiency might be lower than some competitors. Prices start around INR 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra BE 6

Probably the most exciting electric vehicle currently in the Indian market is the Mahindra BE 6 - an EV for the enthusiasts. Launched right at the end of 2024 the BE 6 is available with 59kWh and 79kWh battery packs paired with a single electric motor powering the rear wheels. The highest state of tune offered will produce 281bhp and 280Nm of torque. Using a 175kW charger, the battery can be recharged from 20 to 80 per cent in 20 minutes and has a claimed range of over 500 kilometres making range anxiety less of a concern. It comes with a rear wheel drive layout, fighter cockpit like interior design, it’s  sharp and angular features  along with it’s relatively competitive pricing is set to make a lot of enthusiasts opt for this EV . Its starting price is at around INR 20 lakhs on-road which heads upwards to INR 28 lakhs for the top model.

Honda Amaze (3rd generation)

In the market of sub compact SUVs; Honda is still flying the flag strong for sedans. Unlike its main competitor (Suzuki’s Dzire) the New Amaze is powered by a 1.2-litre 4 cylinder petrol engine producing 89bhp, paired with a 5-speed manual or CVT transmission. Known for its fuel efficiency, the Amaze offers a comfortable ride and a spacious cabin. The Honda Amaze is also the most affordable car available in India which is equipped with level 2 ADAS making it standout in its segment. Prices for the base variant hover at around INR 8 lakhs ex-showroom and head to upwards of INR 11 lakhs for the top trim.

Skoda Kylaq

Skoda’s journey in the sub INR 10 lakh subcompact SUV segment starts off with the Kylaq. Skoda Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It produces 114bhp and178 Nm of torque and shares it’s underpinnings with its bigger brother the Kushaq. It boasts European styling, a spacious interior, and a host of comfort and convenience features. Priced competitively, the Kylaq targets young professionals and families seeking a stylish and feature-rich SUV with a base price of around INR 8 lakhs ex-showroom.
